In the scriptures explain how the prince Siddhartha notice the “Fourth Omen” in the fourth day and questioned about the “fourth Sight of an ascetic” from Channa the charioteer. And how his reply affected the prince to start his spiritual journey. We already know how the majority of people who are in the first level and has no clue of these omens can misinterpret the whole scenario.
When someone sees the omen of aging, omen of sickness, omen of death that guide them to the solution. The omen of ascetic mindset. They really don’t fell in to the trap of pleasure. Like the young prince. He lived a luxurious lifestyle, yet he was living the life of an ascetic from his mind. His mind was in search of truth. His ascetic life was looking for the solution for himself and for others. That’s why he was refusing the kingdom every time he asked to be a king.
So, when ordinary being interpreted the life story of Prince Siddhartha, it’s obvious they keep the look of an ascetic in the mind. Because they rely upon the visible facts only. But they couldn’t see that how the prince noticed the fourth omen while he was observing the aging, sickness and death as a teenager. The ascetic mind of the prince, who was looking for a solution all the time. It is the fourth omen of ascetic life. But who can understand it in such a way, right?
When he questioned the Channa by showing him an ascetic on the way “Who is that?” that question was actually with a deep meaning than the literal meaning of the words. But when an ordinary being who depend on the visible facts which are easy to understand always go with the literal meaning. So, the answer also so obvious. That’s what happens with Channa the charioteer too. He has given the same answer which are the majority of ordinary being would have given.
